Five Top Time Management Tips for College Students.

By: Thomas Hunter

If you’re in college and unable to manage your time, don’t feel bad, most adults have problems managing their time too. All you need to do is rethink how you’ve been approaching your everyday activities and change them. By sticking to an everyday plan, you’re new schedule will become a habit. This new habit can change your total outlook on everything, and soon it will give you some more personal time for you to spend time relaxing, sitting back and enjoying your free time.

Not only will your life change, but you’ll have more time to spend on other things. Time management will also help you to become more productive when it comes to your job. Most employers appreciate employees who can tackle a time schedule. Time management will not only help with work, but your college studies as well. Here are the top five most effective management tips.

1. Plan to organize. It takes planning to organize your schedule, and there’s no better way than to buy a class planner at your local college bookstore. Classes are your top priority. Include study time, and be realistic.

2. Make short term and long term goal lists. This would include any assignments due throughout the semester and the longer assignments due at the end of the year, such as term papers or reports. Make note of what it will take to complete your task or goals. For example, research, read and take notes, then write your paper or first draft. Put this all in your planner for best results. Check them off as they are accomplished.

3. Know your alert time body clock. Consider when you work at things your best. Is it in the morning, afternoon or at night? Schedule your classes and study time around your best times if possible. When will you be least distracted? This may be the best study time for you.

4. Study the more difficult subjects first. All of us have subjects that don’t come as easily to us as other subjects. Devote more time to studying that subject in your study block because once behind it can be almost impossible to catch up.

5. Combine activities for maxim effectiveness. For example, if you’re cleaning your apartment or dorm rooms, put on some taped lectures, or if you’re commuting with others, take some time to go over notes, or read if possible.

It’s possible to effectively manage your time in college for studying, but you’ve got to develop your plan. This can take practice and lots of patience. If you still find yourself struggling after trying all of these suggestions, you might have to look at some other factors too.

Ask yourself these time old questions.

• Are you taking to many classes?
• Are you letting your social life interfere with your study time?
• Are you seriously taking to heart and implementing the suggested study time management skills and study habits?

Be honest with yourself and know that we all need a little heart to heart chat with ourselves. The world won’t end if you decide not to sign up for that extra class. Freshman year especially can be difficult for people, so take the time to learn about what works best for you. Understand too that you’ve got to really work to make it work for you!

Also, remember that prioritization is the key and by doing it, you’ll get to the best study formula possible. It’s great to join your local sorority or fraternity, but there have to be limits set too. Limits on your full participation, on every project, and even limits on college parties.

It’s great to help others in need, such as helping a buddy study for that last minute cram session all night, and it’s good too help another club by gluing flowers on a float all night, but sometimes you have to say – no.

Finally there is no need to be a perfectionist. It’s wise to do your best and follow your schedule or outline. Remember that things may change during the course of a year and allowing yourself to make changes to your schedule and your goals is expected.

To coin Shakespeare, be honest and true to yourself, and the rest will work.
