Five Tops Places to Purchase your Perfumes.

By: Thomas Hunter

Whether it is the vending machine in a truck stop bathroom, the department store, or the counter at your local drug store, perfumes are available everywhere. If we pay no regard to quality or price, perfume is something that can be bought most anywhere we go. With the large range in places to buy perfume and the quality of what they carry, it can be difficult to figure out where the best places to buy perfume are. There are five places to consider, however.

First of all, like with many products, you should consider the internet. Now the obvious drawback to buying perfume on line is that you cannot smell it before you buy it. If you are going to buy online it is a good idea to already know what you want. Also, you should probably avoid knock off scents to avoid ending up with a bad fake that not only doesn’t smell like the perfume it is supposed to, but maybe even smells bad. The upside, though, is that if you know what you want, it is often times much cheaper to buy online than it is to buy in a retail store of some sort.

The second place to consider buying perfume is in what might be the most obvious of places: the department store. Most department stores, or big box stores, have a fragrance department. You have surely seen them before: glass counters with perfume boxes and bottles all along the top, inside, and along the shelves behind them. The advantage here is that you can experience the perfume not only as a free scent, but also on you. Sales people will offer up the scents to try as you walk the area. Since every perfume reacts to every person differently and hence creating a new smell for each person, it is important that you are able to try the perfume on you if at all possible,

Third, you can try discount stores. Yes, that’s right, give a discount store a chance. There is often a fragrance counter manned by an employee who can help you test out and smell the various scents. Again, being able to experience the perfume is a key to making a good decision. The prices at a discount store are often much below the department store, but they will likely not have quite the selection or access to the higher end perfume manufacturers. The discounters are worth stopping in, though, just in case you can end up with a great deal on your favorite fragrance.

Fourth, you can go specialty store and try a fragrance shop. Higher end malls and shopping areas will often have a fragrance shop. This is a store dedicated completely to perfume, cologne, and even body lotions. They sometimes are more expensive, but can sometimes get you access to great knock offs, or competitive pricing on the top scents. Perhaps the biggest advantage is that they will likely know the scents and how they work better than anyone at any other store. In addition, you will be able to smell and try on a wider variety of fragrances than you might if you went with a discount or department store purchase.

A fifth idea for tracking down your favorite perfume is to check out some of the designer stores. Why would you look in a designer store? Well, many of them, like Nike and Abercrombe actually make their own fragrances for purchase. Taking a few minutes to wander in and out of those places will give you access to some lesser known but fabulous scents and fragrances. Make sure you try them on, though; you don’t want any surprises when you put on the perfume for the first time.

You could buy perfume just about anywhere. It is in drug stores, bathroom vending machines, and even the occasional convenience outlet. However, where you buy your perfume is an important decision and one that should not be taken lightly. Should you buy cheaper online, test out the department store fragrance department, try a discount store fragrance counter, or simply try out a specialty store? The truth is that it doesn’t matter as long as you know where you are going how you want your fragrance to function.
