Is your Computer Moving Slowly - You Might Have Spyware!

By: Thomas Hunter

So you gave up on your old PC and relegated it to the kid’s bedroom. Now you have a nice shiny machine sitting on your desk. You went for all the latest of technology when buying a new unit. You wanted to make sure you were keeping up with the latest technology and have a Pentium 4. The old machine that you have given the kids was a mere Pentium 2, and had the speed of molasses running down a tree in January. Once everything is set up and running like fire, you decide to take the puppy out for a spin on the web. You really want to know just how fast everyone else was surfing. You have heard the stories of lightning quick Internet browsing, yet before now; you just did not have that capability.

You fiddle around on some sights and come across all kinds of marketing tactics. It is not impossible for you to take a gamble on the speed in which you can actually get out of the page, and get back to what you are doing. Things are great and the entire world is your stage now, you are in the elite of surfers. Within a matter of approximately 2 hours however, this just do not seem right. Why is this thing all of the sudden lagging? This feel like nothing more than a shinier version of the Pentium 2, you just gave to the kids. This is because you have fallen prey to the marketing strategy known as Spyware. This nasty, yet very effective marketing tool has now completely bogged up your new system. This will now require all kinds of tactics in an attempt to eliminate this pest from your machine. Running the usual scan and clean disk will not be enough for this problem. You will have to locate the bug and squash it yourself. Many times the Internet protection program you are running is not equipped to remove said pest, all but say the best of programs.

If it is a program that came with the machine, there is a good chance that it will not fix this dilemma. Those programs never really seem to attack the root of the Spyware or virus installed on your machine. This is a problem that is about to get worse, as the Spyware monitors your cookies and temporary Internet files that are stored on your ram. This method is a sort of tracking device that can follow you pretty much anywhere you go on the Internet. Leaving this problem for a later date to be fixed or removed, only allows it to build a larger base of tracking. This is a problem that will need immediate attention, and should be sniped the moment you find your machine is under its spell. It would be a good idea to inform you that not only is your computer going to lag; you have more problems in store. When the marketers have gained access to your machine, and your personal information it would be only logical for them to completely overwhelm and flood your e-mail inbox. You will get perhaps thousands of worthless and annoying garbage set to you, on a monthly basis. Weeding out the little important e-mail in this mess will be time consuming to say the least. Everything from shoes to genital enlargement will begin to over take your inbox.

As if this was not bad enough, most of the people on your contact list will be affected. as well. They will get streams of mail not unlike yours, all dealing with absolutely nothing that you are interested in. What will need to happen is you will need to remember exactly what was said to be downloaded in order for you to view the page, then go into the add and remove programs segment of your control panel. You will need to search for this program, and manually remove it, from your list of programs. One problem with this is that it can hide very well. Sometimes masked as another program all together, making it difficult to identify and remove. You will also need to go into your program files on your “C” drive, and see if you can locate the culprit there too. Having a handy little program, such as Spy bot, search and destroy is a good method of detecting you having a Spyware program on your computer. Don’t get caught in the P2 lane of this super highway again.
