Three Reasons Why Rear Projection is the Best Choice for HDTV.

Now that high definition television, or HDTV, is becoming so popular, there are more choices when shopping for a new television. The choices for HDTV are staggering. Consumers can purchase plasma, LCD (liquid crystal display), DLP (digital light processing) or LCOS (liquid crystal on silicon), which are all types of monitors. There are also projection displays to consider. Here are three reasons why rear projection is the best choice for HDTV.

HDTV sets come in many sizes and styles. High definition sets come in LCD, DLP, and LCOS. Many viewers prefer the wall display monitor that either plasma or LCD offers. But, these are usually most expensive of the high definition sets, especially the ones that are sized between 40 - 70 inches. Lower on the cost spectrum, but equally first-rate, are the LCD displays that are sized at 42 inches and under.

Screen resolution from a high definition TV broadcasts is roughly five times as sharp as conventional broadcasts. High definition has double the lines of resolution compared to a traditional analog TV set. While a traditional analog set can only display 525 lines of resolution, HDTV technology takes this one step farther. HDTV broadcasts can display 1080 horizontal lines of resolution. This makes a huge difference in the picture clarity and quality. Often with big screen analog broadcasts, the picture is severely degraded because of the resolution lines.

Rear projection HDTV sets are probably the most popular. Rear projection high definitions are popular for several reasons. One reason why consumers buy the rear projection types is because the LCD display is not based on the traditional projection tube. Unlike a CRT projection television, an LCD uses a light source that passes through transparent LCD. The LCD micro-displays used have three small LCD panels. Each panel is less than one inch diagonal and has the capability produces high definition wide screen images up to 70 inches.

The LCD panels are made up of a grid of transistors that create a pixel structure. When the transistors are charged, tiny rotating crystals suspend n a liquid inside the panel. The crystals are like tiny shutters that control the amount of light that passes through each panel. The light is reflected on a mirror and through a projection screen, which creates the full color high definition picture.

Because the LCD chip is very small, it allows rear projection sets to be small and compact. The LCD chip is extremely small compared to that of the CRT rear-based televisions. The LCD variety is very thin and lighter. The set cannot be hung on the wall as a LCD flat screen or plasma, but it often saves floor space and tend to be less expensive that the flat screen or plasma.

Another reason why rear projection HDTV sets are popular choices is that the screens can be purchased much larger than the LCD and plasma flat screens. With LCD screens, the size is limited, but a rear projection screen can be larger without distortion and still produces a clear picture. There are great benefits of using a rear projection high definition television. They have over twice the sharpness and clarity of regular analog TV broadcasts. The color resolution is far superior. For consumers who have already made the switch to HDTV, they feel this is the biggest advantage of high definition. The lack of imperfections in the television screen often seen on traditional television is another reason why many prefer high definition rear projection sets. With HDTV, problems such as snow caused from a weak signal, double images from ghosting or multi-path and picture sparkles from impulse noise are a thing of the past. These problems often seen on a conventional television broadcast just do not occur on HDTV.

Rear projection sets are also worth looking into because the technology that rear projections uses offers a high contrast and picture brightness. Thus type of set also uses less power than an LCD or a plasma flat screen.

Another type of rear projection television, the DLP is a good choice too because the technology is the same that is used in some movie theaters. The high resolution that the DLP offers makes it a popular choice for those wishing to set up a home movie theater. The DLP gives viewers a true viewing experience.
